I want to be able to export MapSource, Shonky or Contours Australia maps to Ozi so that I can plot routes and tracks and view the maps in 3D. Can this be done with these products? OSM is able to export jpg files. Is it possible to export the map reference data for these too or am I just going to have to calibrate the maps myself using waypoints at a few key intersections? What origin and projection would these files use? There’s not much point in exporting Shonkymaps to Ozi – you can already get very nice raster maps for free from Geoscience Australia – they use the same data, but are proper raster maps and a lot prettier. If you want 3d (I assume you mean Ozi3d) then you don’t need CA, ozi3d will download the SRTM elevation data from the net as needed to give 3d relief. . It took a while to get used to it but this is exactly what I was after. I have been able to output lovely maps directly to OziExplorer without any messy mucking about – lovely. In minutes I am able to create lovely 3D images (using STRM data) to show my non map savy friends where I have been. I have only been playing with it for a couple of hours but it looks like I will also be able to edit maps for download to my GPS. At last Stud Road can be called Stud Road and not Route 9. Hooray!!! Source.
