Service New Brunswick has recently launched a new version of their popular GeoNB Map Viewer, as part of their continued efforts to deliver geographic data to their citizens in a free easy-to-use application. The new GeoNB Map Viewer works with any modern web browser on any mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. It provides online access to a comprehensive Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the entire province of New Brunswick, including aerial photography, civic addressing, land ownership, road networks, hydrographic networks, and various other geographic information.
Access to download any of digital data (including LiDAR data) from the Provincial SDI in a variety of multiple formats to use with most popular GIS software packages, as well as various printable digital versions, is also available from the New Brunswick data catalogue.
Some of the new improvements t GeoNB include:
- Clean user friendly interface,
- no need of a browser that support Flash,
- support for mobile devices (with Apple or Android operating systems),
- the ability to display your current location on the map,
- improved search box (can now search property by PID, PAN or an address),
- updated and redesigned topographic base layer,
- ability to create customized maps,
- and an updated road network.
Customization
With the newly upgraded online mapping tool, more people (especially those without access to GIS software) now have the ability to print custom maps.
The improved functionality allows users to easily incorporate other geographic data sets, such as their own data they collected or other open data sets and generate customized maps. You can also connect directly with ArcGIS online to add any of the freely available data layers provided by other users in the geospatial community.
Embed Maps
They provide the ability to share any custom map that you create. You can share a custom link of the map you created with someone else, save bookmarks to make navigation easier, and even embede your custom maps into another web page [like the one below that provides the ability to use the GeoNB map viewer right here on our website].
User Guide
Service New Brunswick has provided a pretty decent user guide that helps explain all of the new and existing features of the GeoNB map viewer, and how to use them. https://geonb.snb.ca/documents/help/MapViewerHelpWebpage/ViewerHelp.html
