You can use a free reader to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) documents. These files make sharing business information much easier between computer users, since the documents can be viewed on most computers. When you read a PDF, you can increase magnification by clicking on the zoom button (the plus sign on the toolbar) so you can look closely at maps, coupons, pictures or text. PDF viewers often have a mechanism for printing your magnified region, such as the Snapshot tool. If your PDF viewer does not have a zoomed print view, you have other choices for printing the magnified area. If you use either Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader, you can take a snapshot of the area you want to enlarge and print it. In Adobe Reader, click the “Edit” menu and select “Take a Snapshot” from the drop-down menu. In Foxit, click the “Basic” tab and then click the “Snapshot” button. Once you have turned on the Snapshoot tool, use the left mouse button to draw a box around the area you want to magnify and click “Print” from the tool bar. The reader automatically knows you want to print the Snapshot. Choose the options to fit your snapshot on the page from your print menu and click “Print.” You can often copy and paste from a PDF to another program such as a word processor to enlarge an area and print it. Open a PDF in your favorite reader and use your left mouse button to select the area you want to print. Press “Ctrl-C” to copy the selected area to your clipboard. Open your word processor and a new document. Press “Ctrl-V” to paste the selected area to your word processor file as a graphic. You can resize the PDF area in your word processor by dragging on the handles of the graphic. Print the file from your word processor after you have finished sizing it. You can convert the PDF file to a different format such as a word processing document using free online utilities such as Zamzar, CometDocs or DocsPal. Once you have converted the file, you can delete the sections you don’t want and increase the font size or image in the sections you want to print. This will not work if the file is password protected, since these utilities will not break passwords. If the PDF has a certain image, such as a map or picture, that you want to enlarge and print, you can also copy the image into an image editor such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Paint Shop Pro. Use the select tool from your viewer to select the graphic you want to enlarge. Click “Edit” and then “Copy” to copy the image to your clipboard. Open your graphics editor and paste the image into the editor. Enlarge the image to your needs and print. Translating technical jargon into everyday English is one of Anni Martin’s specialties.
