Hello, my name is Adam Wilbert and I’d like to welcome you to Up and Running with ArcGIS. In this course we are going to quickly get you up to speed building maps in Esri’s software’s venerable mapping package. We’re going to explore how to collect and organize geospatial data and how to combine features into a map layout. Then we’ll apply some standard cartographic principles to our documents, in order to arrive at a map that tells the story of our data. We’ll start with an exploration of what geospatial data is. We’ll see how to manage, explore, and organize geospatial data sets using our catalog. And I’ll explain the differences between vector and raster data types. Once we get oriented there, It’ll be time to make some maps. With ArcMap, we’ll assemble geospatial data from a variety of real world public domain sources. Then with the data in place, it will be time to visit the workings of ArcMaps data and layout views. We’ll take a tour through some of the symbology options in order to bring just the right look to our completed map. Finally, we’re looking at getting our maps out of the ArcGIS suite and into the real world. I’m excited to bring ArcGIS to the lynda.com online training library. This will not affect your course history, your reports, or your certificates of completion for this course.
