Adobe Illustrator: How can I convert images (.jpeg, .png) to Vector files (.ai, .eps, etc.) while maintaining the image quality? Adobe Illustrator: Why does ai files need to be saved separately inside the picture instead of embedding the file itself? You can’t maintain image quality when going from raster to vector. You images will become much sharper but you may loose some details in colors, blurs etc. Another option which may be interesting is using a high density mesh in illustrator and applying it over your raster image to get the color values from the original. I’ve done this sometimes to get my vectors to look softer. Drag the image to Illustrator, Go to Window>,Image Trace and the Image Trace bar appears. Now use the Direct Selection Tool to select your .png .jpg artwork and then image trace it using the bar by adjusting the Threshold, Corners, Noise, etc. Once that’s done, Expand your vector paths by selecting your vector artwork and going to Object>,Expand and click on OK. Now select the Live Pint Bucket Tool to Live Paint your Vector art. Cheers. Hope this helps. In Illustrator you have many options & tools handy .
