South-West Asia includes the Peninsula of Arabia, the Syrian-Palestinian mountains, the plains of Mesopotamia. The peculiarity of the geological structure — a fragment of the African platform. A very controversial region in terms of determining the ownership of countries and territories. Some analysts attribute individual countries to South-West Asia, while others attribute the same countries to the Middle East.
South-West Asia is one of the geographical regions of Asia, which includes Transcaucasia, Kopetdag, Asia Minor, Armenian and Iranian highlands, Mesopotamia, Arabian Peninsula.

The landscape of the region is quite diverse, there are sun-scorched deserts and semi-deserts and mountain ranges. The largest mountain systems:
The Iranian plateau, plateaus which reach a height of 2000m
Anatolian (Asia Minor) highlands in Turkey with a height difference of 800 to 1500 meters.
The tops of the Caucasus are similar to the Alpine forms. Some of them exceed the mark of 5000 meters:

- Datau — 5203 m,
- Kazbek-5033 m.
South-West Asia includes large deserts of the world:
- Edge-ale-Hale (to the South-East of the Arabian Peninsula, with an area of 650 km2),
- Large and Small Nefud,
- Syrian desert,
- Deshte-Kevir et al
All it’s vast expanses are covered with giant sand dunes.
The most famous and deepest lowland of the region — Mesopotamian, located in the valleys of the ancient rivers Tigris and Euphrates, is one of the largest irrigated oases in the world. The river network of South-West Asia is quite dense in the mountains and extremely sparse in the plains. Major rivers are: the Tigris, the Euphrates, the Rioni, the Amu Darya, Panj, Kyzyl-Irmak, etc. a Lot of small rivers end in endorheic basins or disappears in the sand.
On the territory of the Caucasus, Asia minor highlands there are many picturesque lakes. Including the amazing tectonic lake Sevan, Riza, van, ACE, Urmia. Another lake, called the Dead sea (drainless lake), is located in the ghir basin in Israel and Jordan. It is the largest salty reservoir of dry land on earth.
The climate of South-West Asia is tropical and subtropical, extremely arid and hot. In the Central and southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula temperatures reach +55° C. only on the coasts of the Black and Mediterranean seas is a zone of hardwoods and shrubs. In Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran there are small areas of humid subtropics (Colchis, Lankaran).
South-West Asia is the birthplace of Islam. Here are the saints for every Muslim Mecca (where, according to legend, Muhammad was born), and the “city of the prophet” — Medina. These places are the objects of pilgrimage for millions of Muslims.
