Course syllabus UAG – Introduction Into GIS (FH – WS 2015/2016)

Introduce students to basic concepts of GIS, ArcGIS architecture and range of features that this software product provides. Students gain knowledge and skills in map creation, editing and data acquisition and data processing and analysis. In addition, students learn working with symbols, labels and annotations as well as some tools for data analysis. Manage Table of contents - change the drawing order of layers, renaming the data frames and layers, remove layers, table display or source Symbology in ArcMap application - set of symbols for plotting data according to attribute values or the same symbol for all Working with Coordinate Systems - Cartographic projections, coordinate systems in Czech Repuplic, storing and displaying information about the coordinate system, change the coordinate system Representation of reality by means of geographic elements - vector and raster data, geometry, attributes and rules of behavior data ArcCatalog applications - three views of the data card content, create thumbnails, preview cards, card metadata, ArcCatalog choices, connecting directories, add a new file type, access the Internet Setting up symbols for the quantitative attribute values - point, line and surface elements vs. spatially continuous data Editing tasks - create a new element to extend / shorten the elements, mirror elements, modify elements, change the shape of the element, divided by a line of polygon features, auto-complete polygon, intersection and distance, arc, tracing the line Context menu sketch - sketch modification, assignment length, direction, diversion, entry angle, depending on other elements, the end of the sketch The basic rules - the relationship label-element priority labels, weight labels, packaging labels area, the visibility of labels Completing the course - Preparing of project of selected model area including analysis, graphic layout, project print and export.
