Help importing ai files into Flash 8 [Archive] – ActionScript.org Forums

I have just made the switch from Flash MX to Flash 8. I am working on a project that requires me to import Adobe Illustrator CS files. However when I do so, the font doesn't convert, I just get a bunch of square boxs and some asian characters along with this output error message: I'm not sure why this is happening. The ai file was created in 10, saved as 5 and modified by me in 11. I've tied changing the font to no avail. I've tried to convert the fonts to outlines but they become jagged and distorted. The original 10 files opens fine but I need the file to be in its modified state. twf:confused: ... Any ideas as to how to get around this? I've often had problems such as you report. A lot of times some shapes from the AI file either go missing, lose their fill or turn black. Almost always, the color changes. I've also had some luck importing PNG files instead. As for your font issue, if exporting as SWF or PNG doesn't work, wouldn't it be quicker in your case to import the jaggy vectorized font shapes and then use them as guides and re-do the fonts in Flash? wouldn't it be quicker in your case to import the jaggy vectorized font shapes and then use them as guides and re-do the fonts in Flash? I'm going to give your other suggestions a try first. Thanks a lot for your help and let me know if anything else comes to mind. Well heres the thing, the map amination uses a zooming effect. You click a state on the USA map and it zooms in onto the state you selected. Because of this feature, a PNG or ESP is too large of a file size and Flash wont allow it to work. Plus, EPS files change colour for some odd reason... It has to be the ai file so that it can be scalable within Flash. This means it has to be a large image with a small file size. I am rather shocked that there is this level of incompatability between Flash and Illustrator files considering Adobe's take over of Macromedia. I thought Adobe would increase the integratation capabilities between the two platforms??? Well... Illustrator was made by Adobe and Flash was made by Macromedia long before they even thought about the merge... ,) I've done several map navigation in Flash and I ended up creating them again in Flash based upon the EPS that I import... Yeah... It took a while and it's no fun process... :D Well... Illustrator was made by Adobe and Flash was made by Macromedia long before they even thought about the merge... ,):D True, but did Adobe not already own Macromedia before the release of Flash 8? Wouldn't the whole point of the merge be to make the two brands more compatible? Well I guess Freehand is going to become obsolete now anyhow. Ideally yes, but the development cycle of F8 was pretty much over by the time when the merge has begun... On top of that, they might not have perfect support for AI in F9 either... It's not just plug and play... It's got to be whole lot more complicated... At least that's what I think... ,) Oh, the whole point of the merge is not just to make the more compatible products but to take Flash into the Adobe's hand... :D Well heres the thing, the map amination uses a zooming effect. I am curious what happens when you export it to SWF from within Illustrator. That sometimes works. Though I once created a complex city skyline in Illustrator, full of gradient fills, and when I exported to SWF, the gradients all completely changed colors! Frankly, for any project I know will end up in Flash, I don't go anywhere near Illustrator. I just happened to look at the Adobe website today. There was mention in the Creative Suite 2 bundle about the 'extreme compatibility' between Illustrator and Flash. I assume that their copywriter was being deliberately sarcastic. Source.
