MAPublisher Plugin Enhanced for Map Creation in Adobe Illustrator Creative Cloud 2015 | Graphics.com

While cartographic-quality maps are increasingly being created and modified in Adobe Illustrator, scanning and tracing can slow production and introduce errors. MAPublisher eliminates these steps by providing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data management tools, allowing native GIS data files to be used as a base for cartographic production. MAPublisher can import such GIS data formats as those from ESRI, MapInfo, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Google and the US Government, GML, S-57, Web Feature Service (WFS), Web Map Service (WMS), GPX, Microsoft Excel, Esri ArcMap documents, Esri Basic Personal Geodatabase and data-rich Adobe Illustrator files exported from Cartographica. All GIS data attributes and geographic parameters are said to be maintained during import and are fully accessible and editable during the cartographic process. Thematic mapping functionality provides flexibility in mixing graphic styles, swatches, symbols, rules and attributes, including support for pie and bar charts, as well as dot density maps. Other functionality includes an Image feature type to make importing georeferenced raster imagery easier, a Join Areas geoprocessing feature, and a MAP Contour Tagger to quickly add labels to contour lines. Then there's MAP layer export, with multiple layer export supported, export document to image can export a georeferenced image of the entire artboard, an Automation tool can configure settings that initiate MAPublisher operations upon data import to automate map production, such as manage MAP Views, apply MAP Theme stylesheets, create grids and graticules, label using MAP LabelPro, and export to geospatial PDF, Path Utilities performs optimization actions on line and area layers, it's possible to view attributes in a tear-off panel, and Export Document to Web Tiles can export the artboard as tiled images for use in a web-based map. Speaking of the new version 9.6, Ted Florence, President of Avenza, states that, “An important addition to an already full-featured cartographic tool lineup is the ability to create map packages for the PDF Maps app,” he added. “These map packages can be loaded directly into the app by anybody wanting to use custom maps. Map publishers can easily upload map packages directly to the map store from Adobe Illustrator, making it easier to publish and sell maps.' Also new is optimized Export Document to Web Tiles for faster tile export, the ability to curve text to lines of latitude, compatibility with FME Desktop 2015 for MAPublisher FME Auto, and complete compatibility with Adobe Illustrator Creative Cloud 2015. MAPublisher 9.6 for Mac and Windows Illustrator CS6-CC 2015 can be purchased on the Avenza site for $1399. A trial version is also available for download. Source.
