am working on a project to do country-wide mapping using projected coordinate system such UTM. However, the country (Zambia) is covered by three UTM zones, namely zone 34,35 and 36.I have read literature on possibility of widening UTM zones and the resulting worsening of errors. My concern is on how to modify UTM zones to cover as much as 12 degrees of longitude in one zone. The central meridian will of course be moved to the center. The input dataset is a Mercator projected geotiff. Using GDAL it is possible to get the spatial reference information and dataset metadata. One component of the metadata is pixel resolution (at the equator). Assume each pixel is ~4km square. The scale bar will be simplistic, and the goal is determine the printed length of the scale bar at 100km. I am struggling to define the ratio between printed size and visualized size. For example, at 1:1000000, I can define the unit as cm and know that a 10cm scale bar is required. But this needs to be related back to the map and I am completely missing that (basic) linkage. I want to put on a QGIS map some historical sites to check if they are aligned. If an alignement exists, the points should stay on a great circle (is this correct?). I want to visually verify this using a map projection where orthodromic lines are represented as straight lines. In a second step I would draw two boundary lines and calculate bearings from a determinate point. For example, here is a snapshot of a QGIS map with the points of “The St Michael-Apollo ‘Axis’” as described by Lucien Richer, 1977. What is the best method for getting the radius of a circle in Openlayers 3 in epsg 4326 (geodesic)? I’m using this example for a base and trying to draw a circle while getting the radius, but using proj 4326 is proving difficult. Here’s my code: radius = Math.abs(wgs84Sphere.geodesicArea(center)), isn’t right, but I’m not sure what to put there…. I know this is suppose to be simple and I’ve found similar questions. However when I try to do the same (data management tools >, projections and transformations >, raster >, project) inserting input (GCS_WGS84) and output (WGS84_UTM_Zone23S_SouthAmerica) coordinate systems, ArcMap still requires the choice of a geographic transformation. It shouldn’t be this way. How can I transform this lat/long raster to UTM? I am having trouble getting GDAL to read a file geodatabase with data projected in NAD83(2011) State Plane Arizona Central FIPS 0202. I have developed the following code: The data can be downloaded here. I am new to python and GDAL and I am simply trying to list out the items in the specified geodatabase. When i run the code I get the following error: The projection was made in house and there hasn’t been an EPSG of ESRI code assigned to it yet. I know its valid, but is there a way to make GDAL think its valid? I am trying to convert coordinate system of featurelayer and datasets using ESRI.ArcGIS.DataManagementTools.Project . The tool works fine in ArcCatalog . The error is pretty vague and I dont know if there is an other way to trace this problem. COMPlus exception code (-532462766) I have a geocoded raster image that I want to use as the background to a vector map with D3.js. The screenshot shows the layers in QGIS (grey is raster). My question is: How do I make the vector layers and the background image align in the browser? I think this is the relevant code sections from the NYT, but I’m not sure how to apply it to my own project: I’m creating a poster which has many separate maps (rivers of the world). I’d like to use a similar projection for each of them, so they’re comparable. I guess I want some parameterized projection, but which are good candidates, and what parameters to use? Source.
