I am experiencing problems when I rescale a vector-only graphic to a smaller size. Some parts will not print, and when I go to look at the graphic in preview mode, the line represents as grey and i cannot select. I can select with the marqee tool, and ungroup, then it seems ok and I can group it again, but I do not want to do this every time I rescale the thing! Plus it only seems to affect certain parts of the illustration and i worry that I, or my, colleagues may miss something before it is sent to print. There are also some very strange things going on when I rescale a grouped text box with inline effect. As soon as I ungroup that text, it goes crazy and undo does not change it back. Inline effect has always been a little bit dodgy, so I am prepared to work around that one. OK so I am certainly using a postscript printer, HP laserjet 5000. Our colour printer is not ps, but we have a RIP so no worries there. My raster settings were at 72 ppi. I have not seen this menu item before, I came from Freehand 8 straight to MXa. The eventual output for my project is to digital print at 144dpi. Should I change to that? Or to the offset range 300ppi? I do have groups transform as unit checked. I ran a test: I unchecked it, pasted a box with outline and a text box onto my page. i grouped, then used the scale tool to reduced it's size. Suddenly I could not select it. I was able to get the handles to show by using the marquee select, but could not then drag it. Nudge worked, but it is not quite handy. When I ungroup, it darkens noticeably in Keyline mode, and I am able to group it again and move it around. I don't think it's an acceptableworkaround to have to do each time, especially if I have a more complex vector image grouped in sections, or vectors pasted inside. I have erased all inline effects and am doing that manually with outline stroke width. It's more time consuming, but at least I have control and can check the scale tool to include line width. Thanks for your help with that one. The lens I was using was transparency, at 20% of a PMS colour. It was the image underneath. Again, i had scaled it down and it would not print or accept marquee select. Now I am having an issue printing a tiff I have placed on the same page. It is 42% of actual size. It's a 952kb file, cmyk tiff out of Photoshop 7. It just doesn't turn up at print. Once I scale it, I cannpt resize it using the handles, I have to type in the percetage of size I would like in the Object Inspector. I'm surprised Freehand can't handle it, it used to be such a robust little champion! Maybe it's cause the water swirls the other way here in the southern hemisphere... Source.
